Winter is definitely the best time to visit Mount Vernon
Everyone knows George Washington’s Mount Vernon is gorgeous. The views are sweeping, the grounds are picturesque and the estate is laden with history. However, there’s no shortage of crowds when the weather is nice – putting on the pressure to hustle through exhibits. Fortunately for those of us who like to stroll leisurely, Mount Vernon is a lot less busy in the winter months and there’s no shortage of entertainment options. On December 8,9 and 17, you can check out Mount Vernon by candlelight during a special evening tour. If you want a fun option for kids, Mount Vernon will also have fireworks over the Potomac River on December 15 and 16.
